On Sunday, George & I attended a baby shower for his co-worker Pavel Repin and his wife Linna.  We had a fun time at the shower which was designed to include all the guys.  I had knit a pullover sweater and a pair of booties for the baby, but I also had decided to give the happy parents-to-be a baby gnome hat that others had declared either "cute" or "really ugly, and you finished it?"  (Well, I did post it to Ravelry's "Hall of Shame" group. teehee)

Since the parents declared the hat cute, I gave Pavel the beret I had knitted with the same yarn.  I had been wondering who to give the beret to as I had knitted it purely for the experience of knitting my first beret.  Pavel loved it as orange is his favorite colour.

He had to take it off after awhile because it was getting too hot.  I informed him it was pure wool, and he and the baby's heads would be very warm come next winter.

Linna seemed to like the sweater and booties.

Another attendee at the shower had presented Pavel and Linna with lots of baby clothes and I was delighted to discover that the colours of the pullover sweater was perfect with them.  I congratulated George on his good colour sense since he had picked out the yarn from my huge stash of sock yarn.

I don't have any pictures from the retreat.  I usually forget to take pictures and almost all of the photos on this blog were taken by George.

I had registered for the Saturday evening banquet and an all-day class on Sunday.  The banquet could have been a little lonely, but while waiting outside to get into the banquet hall, I ran into Fred and Jen Hagan.  I worked with Fred at two different companies for several years and his wife is a knitwear designer who's becoming better known.  They run Fidgeadh Yarns together.  If you go to their site, Fred is modeling most of the men's sweaters that Jen designed.  We had a great time catching up before and during the banquet.

I also went to the Marketplace on Saturday afternoon where I bought way too much yarn.  It's gorgeous stuff and I plan to use it all.  I ran into Charisa and a few other people from the Portland Yarn Crawl in the Marketplace, and then sat with them while we all showed off what we had bought.  I then got into a conversation with Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, the Yarn Harlot, and a friend of hers.  I'm such a fangirl.

I drove back down to Tacoma on Sunday for an all-day class with Janine Bajus on selecting colours for fair isle knitting.  I've enjoyed reading Janine's blog Feral Knitter for several months and she was great in person.  Janine took us through a lot of colour theory and then had us knit a fast swatch using colours we selected from a photograph along with any other values of the colours that we could find on the table.  We had over 300 colours to choose from and I think I can say that the entire class had fun.  I have the swatch somewhere, but I can't find it right now.  When I do, I'll post a picture of it.

On Saturday morning, George and I had brunch at Julia's on Broadway with Delf, Muhsin and Janelle.  It was great to catch up with Delf as it's been months since we seen him.

I gave Janelle a hat I had knitted for fun in December and a pair of mittens I had knitted with Janelle in mind in January.  The mittens are adorable.  I bought the pattern book "Not Just Socks For Kids" because of the pattern and they were fun to knit.

Delf left early because he was heading down to the Madrona Fiber Arts Festival in Tacoma with a bunch of other people.  I was heading there myself as I had signed up for the banquet and wanted to check out the Marketplace.

Last week I knitted up a hat from Deb in bright red Brown Sheep Burly Spun.  The hat looked great and then I washed it.  The colour bled and the hat grew so that it was big enough for a giant.  I decided I had to frog it and start over.  Last night, after the hat was finally dry (Burly Spun is very bulky), I frogged the hat.  Don't I look just delighted in this photo?

I skeined it up and washed the yarn again today and it bled again.  It stopped bleeding after the third wash and I've hung it up to dry as I need to get the kinks out.  I decided to wash up some other yarn that also needed it.  George took this photo.

The skeins are hanging from the potrack over our kitchen sink and I put hangers on them to add some weight.  I'll get around to knitting Deb's hat again someday.

I'm finished with knitting Fake Isle hats for now.  I've knitted 9 of them since May.  I got these done just in time to give to Robin and Kal Kaufman at games night on Thursday.  We won't be having another games night until after the new year.

I love the colours of Kal's hat, especially the greens right at the rib brim.  Robin's worked out pretty good with chocolate brown as the motif colour.  I'm going to continue knitting hats, but do different styles.

I knitted the Fake Isle Hat pattern in some solid colours of alpaca for Louise, who is allergic to wool.  We found out she could handle alpaca when she spent 15 minutes petting the stuffed alpaca I got for George at Alcapalooza 2007.  She was so surprised that her thought hadn't started closing up.

We went to So Much Yarn together so Louise could pick out the colours.  There aren't many colours available in the alpace/tencel yarn we decided on so Louise went with these.

I discovered that alpaca grows a lot after washing.  This is a little loose on Louise.

I took the yarn for Lyndol's hat to Italy with me, but never got around to knitting it.  We were having so much fun that I barely knit.  I knitted the hat this month and gave it to Lyndol at games night.  He likes to wear his hats above his ears I found out, so any future hats will be shorter.

I took enough yarn for two hats and a pair of socks to Italy with me.  Since I ended up taking the wrong sock pattern book, I didn't get that done.  But I did knit and finish a hat for Deb.

I checked my notes when I got home and it turns out I had taken the wrong colours with me for Deb's hat, but she liked it anyway.  Good thing she forgot what colours she had picked out. hehe

I may have taken 3 projects, but we were so busy I really didn't have much time for knitting.  I mostly take knitting for airplanes and airports.

I wanted a brighter hat for those days I feel like standing out so I knitted a second hat for myself.  I kept the side motif this time and shortened the number of even rounds used in the top motif to make a flatter top.  I really like this shaping.  I knit this over the weekend while George & I and our friend Alan were in Victoria, B.C.  We had a great weekend and I got lots of knitting done on the ferry rides.

I so rarely knit anything for myself, but I really wanted this hat.  I have a very small hat (20.5 inches in diameter) so I changed the side motif to a wave pattern.  The usual motif takes up 13 rows, the waves motif takes only 6 rows.  This makes the hat fit just right for me.

And he has great legs!

I found this wonderful pattern on MagKnits called Fake Isle Hat.  I love it!  Watching the colours change in the Noro Kureyon yarn is fascinating.  I plan to make lots more!  I gave this hat to Raven.

I was sitting in the living room on Monday night and my fingers were freezing.  I thought "I need a pair of fingerless gloves."  So I checked out various patterns online and on Tuesday started this pattern:

This is the "Fetching" pattern from Knitty.com.  I knitted them in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran that I had left over from the scarf I knitted George back in December 2005.  The color number is 300506 and I would describe it as Fir Green.  With this pattern, I cabled without a needle for the first time and picked up my first thumbs.  I had to re-do the thumb on the first glove because I had big holes.  Now they're done and I'll leave them next to my chair in the living room for the next time my fingers are freezing while I knit, needlepoint or read.

Thoughts

I've been reading the Knitting Curmudgeon's archives lately.  She writes a lot about people being afraid to try new things in knitting.  I realized that I can often be one of those people.  It takes me a lot of time to work up my nerve to try something new -  a technique, a pattern, a substitute yarn, etc.  I tend to doubt my abilities.  Some of my fear is left over from when I couldn't afford much yarn so I was afraid of messing up and destroying the yarn I did have.

But some of it is a fear of losing/wasting time.  I don't know where this fear comes from, but it has a big hold on my mind.  I fear losing time to having to reknit an item, to surfing the web and getting nothing substantial done, to just wasting time.  And I waste a lot of time, often doing nothing.  And then I beat up on myself for wasting all that time.  I often fear that my life will just disappear into "wasting" time.  I need to work through that and actually get somethings done.

I knitted this premmie jacket for the daughter of a boss I had a few years back.  Unfortunately, the daughter died at 10 days old so I never gave the jacket to her dad.  I'm keeping it until someone else I know has a premmie.

This isn't a very good picture, but it's the best one I have right now.  I'll try to get a better shot before I put this up on my Finished Projects website.

Wendy of WendyKnits.net posted the following on 14 December 2006:

Knit From Your Stash 2007!

A few days ago, L-B mentioned to me that she was thinking about attempting to knit from her stash exclusively in 2007. I, of course, laughed at her initially, but started thinking that attempting to knit from my stash exclusively was not a bad idea. Both L-B and I have stashes of epic proportions. L-B had suggested a period of 9 months of knitting from the stash, so that we could go to Stitches East next October and buy yarn there.

So, in a phone call this morning, we sketched out some guidelines.

Knit From Your Stash 2007

1. The Knit-From-Your-Stash-a-Thon will start January 1, 2007 and run through September 30, 2007 -- a period of nine months.

2. We will not buy any yarn during that period, with the following exceptions:

2.a. Sock yarn does not count. What? You think we are made of stone?

2.b. If someone asks for a specific knitted gift that we really and truly do not have the yarn for, we may buy yarn to knit that gift.

2.c. If we are knitting something and run out of yarn, we may purchase enough to complete the project.

2.d. We each get one "Get Out of Jail Free" card -- we are each allowed to fall off the wagon one time.

3. We are allowed to receive gifts of yarn.

4. Spinning fiber of any sort is exempt.

So. I have put it in writing. I've got yarn for a number of very alluring projects in stash, and I am hoping to actually get to most of those projects next year. We'll see how I do.

And anyone else who would like to join us in this is welcome to do so!

I have something of a stash but what I really need to work on is knitting up items for which I have bought the pattern, yarn, and needles already.  My rules will be as follows:

1. The Knit-From-Your-Stash-a-Thon will start January 1, 2007 and run through August 31, 2007 -- a period of eight months so I can buy yarn in Italy in September.

2. I will not buy any yarn during that period, with the following exceptions:

2.a. If someone asks for a specific knitted gift that I really and truly do not have the yarn for, I may buy yarn to knit that gift.

2.b. If I am knitting something and run out of yarn, I may purchase enough to complete the project.

2.c. I get one "Get Out of Jail Free" card -- I am allowed to fall off the wagon one time.

2.d. I can buy specific yarn required for any knitting classes I take at my LYS.

3. I am allowed to receive gifts of yarn.

These rules should work for me as I have so many projects to knit up.  And I have lots of partially finished projects to finish.

Please wish me luck!

I'm still working on George's socks.  At least I'm on the second one now.  I spent weeks not working on them and then found that the needles had come out while everything was sitting in a bag I kept shoving things into.  I finally got all the stitches back the way they were suppose to be (I was in the middle of the gusset decreases) and am now knitting the foot.   I said for the past 3 weekends that I would finish this sock over the weekend.  This time I think I'll finally be done over the Labor Day Weekend.

I'm still knitting the sock continental (pick) style and my stitches are getting much better.  Practice, practice, practice.  I mentioned below that I was knitting a scarf continental style.  Well, I've decided I hate the stitch pattern I was using and I'm going to rip it out.  It's been great practice, but I wouldn't want to wear it.

I got a big shelving unit for my basement studio.  I'll try to get some pictures of my basement studio/office up in a day or two.  I think I might get another of the same kind of shelving unit as the present one looks good, but I have lots more stuff.  We have a very large house for just the two of us, but it's always messy.  I think this is mostly because we don't have the right furniture for the storage/display of what we have.  I wish we could afford a professional organizer AND the furniture/storage they would suggest for us, but since that would be prohibitively expensive, we'll have to muddle through on our own.

My contract job is probably ending Sept 14th.  RealNetworks isn't extending my contract as they're changing their QA focus yet again.  I'm ready to move on to another company with a different dynamic.  I can say that I've really enjoyed the people I've been working with, but it's not the company/position for me.

I should get home now before George starts worrying.  Bye for now.

As I wrote a couple of weeks ago, I've started another pair of socks for George.  I got the first one done and had to rip out the toe after George tried it on (it was too tight).  All the stitches are back on the needles, but the hot weather here in Seattle results in a suana in our living room (where I do most of my knitting) so I haven't felt like working with wool.

I also haven't made much progress on the seaman's style scarf that I am knitting continental method.  Again the heat issue, and the fact that I knit slower in the continental method so I get a little bored with it.

It's time for me to purchase some shelving for my studio-to-be in the basement so I can get all the boxes of knitting and sewing stuff off the floor, and have a comfortable and cool place to knit.  Also I need the space to sew up some curtains for our 1st floor guest room.

We made our 2nd annual move to the "summer palace" on Monday night as our master bedroom on the 2nd floor is stifling in hot weather.  The 1st floor is better, but if the summer heats up much more we'll be moving to the southern hemisphere (my basement office/studio-to-be); yet another reason to clean up all the boxes spread out across the basement floor.

I finished reknitting the "Lichen Rib" socks.  After washing, they're a little loose.  I'm still trying to figure out fit for my feet.  I've started another pair of socks in a lovely colour way with yarrow yellow, light green, medium green and medium grey.  George really likes the colour way also so these socks will be for him.  They're knitting up very loose as I'm knitting them continental style, my first real project using that technique rather than the throw (or English/American) style of knitting that I've been using for around 40 years.  Occasionally I forget and do a round in throw style and can then tell that continental is a lot easier on the tendons in my right wrist.

These are the first socks that I knitted for myself after taking a class in sock knitting at So Much Yarn.  I made the leg very short as I have very large calves and all store-bought socks fall down and look terrible.  I hadn't even a clue about leg shaping when I knitted these.  I've worn these a lot over the past several months.  As soon as they're washed, they're back on my feet.  Not knowing much about yardage needs, I bought two skeins.  I didn't even use all of one skein since the yarn comes in 100g skeins of 400m each.  I might try something like Jaywalkers for the other skein.

I'm finding that I like really bright colours for my handknit socks.  The socks I buy are usually black or blue to blend with my shoes or trousers.  But that would be so boring to knit with.  Give me something with pizzazz!

I reshaped the toe on the left foot.  It took me a couple of weeks to get around to washing and blocking the socks.  George isn't crazy about the yarn.  He thinks it's a little too rough, but he did wear them all day today.  Maybe the yarn will soften up after a couple of more washings.

I don't think I'll do the Pointed Toe again.  It really doesn't fit George's feet.

MadderRibbed1.JPG

You can see the Dutch Heel here.  It's also called the Horseshoe heel and does resemble that object.  I think it cups George's heels nicely, but I'll have to ask him what he thinks.

These socks are the Lichen Ribbed Socks pattern out of Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks.  I'm knitting them in Knit Picks "Simple Strips" yarn which is 75% superwash wool and 25% nylon.  I really like the colours in this yarn.

I had actually completed these socks and then decided the heel flap was too long for my feet.  I've ripped one sock back and made the heel flap only 24 rows long rather than the 30 called for in the pattern.  Now to reknit the heel and foot, then I'll rip back the other one.

Right now I'm working on a basket weave scarf.  I'm using the scarf to practice my continental knitting.  I learned to knit English/American throw-style, but after all these years my right wrist has started to bug me a lot.  So far my tension is all over the place.  Part of my problem is that I hold my left fingers a little too straight.  I'm trying to get myself to bend my fingers more and relax them, but I think that's going to take awhile.

One thing I have discovered that I really like is Norwegian purling.  You can check out a small video of it here.  Scroll down to the "Alternative Methods" section.  I love not having to move the yarn to the front to purl.  There is an extra movement to do this, but I find it a lot easier than regular continental purling.

I'm interested in trying the combination knitting developed by Annie Modesitt, but I think I'll work on learning western continental first.  I feel like a brand new knitter and don't feel like doing much knitting right now, because anything I really want to make right now I would have to do throw style.

Enough for now.  I'll try to post some actual photos soon.

Well... I've been a little ill and a lot injured.  I picked up some kind of headcold or something that caused me to miss work last Thursday 4/27 and work only 3 hours on Friday 4/28.  Meanwhile on Sunday evening 4/23, my right foot started to hurt.  As the week went on, it got worse.  I saw my podiatrist yesterday and he took x-rays.  Good news - no fractures.  Bad news - he thinks I've torn a tendon.  I'll be in a walking cast for the next 3 weeks while we see if that helps it heal.  I'm in a lot of pain and last night woke up at 3am because of it.  I was back in bed by 5am and the alarm went off at 7:30am.  I'm now exhausted and in pain.

On the knitting front, I finished the small basket and felted it.  It's looking pretty good.  I took the 3 baskets to my knitting class last week.  Lauren and I agree that I need to run the largest basket through a hot wash again after I fasten the handles on more securely.  I did a much better job with the handles on the medium and small baskets after seeing how the handles on the large basket turned out.

I re-did the toe on George's left sock and he's much happier with the fit.  Now to wash and block them slightly.  And to get him to wear them out of the house.

I started another pair of socks, this time for me.  I've finished the first sock and last night I started the second sock, and with being up for two hours in the early morning, started on the gusset already.  The 2nd sock will likely be done tonight or tomorrow evening.

I've been very busy recently.  Ended up working both Saturday and today as we're in a crunch to release a product.  It's been a case of fix one bug and introduce two new ones.  At least I get paid time and a half since I'm a contractor rather than a salaried employee.  I've been having trouble sleeping so with this on top of it, I'm really tired!  The product needs to be done by Friday EOD and I have a couple of other products to test so this will be another busy week at work.

Meanwhile, I felted the second basket and it's looking good.  I hope to finish crocheting the third, smallest basket and get it felted tonight so I can take the set to show off at Tuesday's knitting class.  I still need to re-do George's sock toe, but I might be able to do that on the bus to and from work.  Then it'll be time to come up with a new project.  Any ideas?  More socks? A knitted felted bag?  Another Faroese-style shawl?

I felted the blue basket yesterday and wanted it tighter so I turned up the heat on the hot water heater this morning, then ran it thru the washer again tonight.  It's drying now.  Meanwhile, last night I finished the green basket (medium size), except for the handles as they need to be in the blue yarn and I need some more.  This basket holds only 5 of our stuffed animals.

I finished George's socks tonight at knitting class.  He tried them on and I need to re-do the toe on the left sock because it's a little tight.

TwoMadderRibbedSocks.JPG

And yes, there is a left sock vs right sock.  I'm knitting socks for George because his right foot is 2 sizes larger than his left foot.  This is the result of foot surgery he had when he was 10 years old.  At first I worried about how to distinguish the socks from each other: knit a L on one, R on the other; put a different color for a row on the sole; etc.  I didn't need to do any of that after all as the size difference is so obvious!  (Except in the foreshortening in this pic.)

I finished sewing up the sides Sunday evening.  I don't know why I put it off for so long other than I hate seaming.  It's really cute and I plan to take it to show off at my Tuesday evening knitting class.  Then I need to get it mailed off to the birthday girl.

I finished the basket, except for the handles, tonight and filled the basket with our stuffed animals that live in the living room.  I was able to fit 7 in this basket.

I'm a little behind on the Shrug for Sarah as I've been distracted by two other projects and working late at work.  I've finished the knitting.  Sarah's birthday is Tuesday so I need to get this done!  Actually she'll be shocked if a present were to arrive on time.  I've got Maggie and the girls trained.  They now like getting my gifts a little late as it's a second chance to celebrate their birthdays or xmas.

I really like the Mock Rib pattern.  It's pretty on both sides as you can see in these photos.

I knitted this ballet wrap pattern, called "Otis" that I got from Knitty.com for George's sister Michelle.  I used yarn I've had in my stash for years: Sirdar Denim Tweed DK in colour Violet.

I was knitting this up until a few hours before I gave it to her.  She immediately put it on and George took this photo.  Michelle really likes it and wears it with a pretty summer dress she bought to go with the wrap.

Back in April 2005, I knitted a scarf using some fun yarn I picked up at Joanne's Fabrics.  The two balls I knitted left the scarf a little shorter than I wanted it to be so I looked in my Barbara Walker books of stitches and added lace ends to the scarf.  I gave this to Catherine when I went down to visit my sister Maggie and her family in May 2005.  She immediately started rubbing it against her face, and when we travelled to Ireland and London in June/July 2005, she brought the scarf with her.

The lace blocked out very nicely.  I used a black chenille I bought on eBay years ago.

I cast off the circular shrug this morning.  Just need to get a picture and then sew it up.  I still need to look for a nice brooch that Sarah can use to close it.  I also turned the heel on George's second sock and have started working the gusset.

On Tuesday night, I started a 5-week Intermediate Knitting class at So Much Yarn.  It's mainly a time to bring in one's projects and get help with problems.  The first thing I wanted help with was darning a hole in one of George's pullovers.  Lauren admitted she didn't know a lot about darning, but she did point out that I needed to capture all the loose loops to make sure the hole wouldn't get bigger.  Together we got the hole darned well enough that George will be able to wear and wash the pullover for at least a few more months.

My second project needing help was how to start a crocheted basket for felting.  I had bought the pattern and yarn in November and I signed up for the December class about how to do the baskets, but had to cancel because George & I were going to be out of town.  I tried to do the basket on my own, but I just couldn't figure out the starting instructions.  Lauren told me that the instructions were missing a step at the very beginning.  I've noted this on the pattern and should be able to start the other two baskets on my own.  I plan to make a set of 3 nested baskets in different colours.  I'm now working on the largest basket in dark blue.

This was my first ever Fair Isle project.  I took a class offered at So Much Yarn, where Lauren showed us how to put together the colours we wanted as well as how to knit with two colours in the same row.  I had originally intended this bag for Sarah's Xmas present, but when it arrived my sister Maggie fell in love with it and Sarah gave it to her.  (I now owe Sarah an Xmas gift.)  I guess it was meant to be Maggie's since I had bought another set of colours to make the same bag for Maggie for her birthday in January.

I used Tahki Cotton Classic.  It's hard to see in these photos, but there are green beads at the tips of the picot edging and the ends of the ties.  The ties were hard to make, but Lauren convinced me to stick with them and they eventually came out well.

As you can see, this is the same design that I used for Lizzie's Felted Bag, just different colours that I thought my 18 year old niece, Catherine might like.  It was meant for Xmas, but I finally got it to Catherine in late January even tho' I had finished it before the holidays.  I again used Cascade 220 and an eyelash yarn.

Catherine likes it.  To quote "It's so cute!  Very reminiscent of Dr. Suess, who was the whole of my childhood.  I love it...".

Isn't it wonderful to get such feedback on a gift you make for someone?  Both Catherine and her sister Sarah are very appreciative of the items I knit for them, which is why I continue to knit for them.

I had George try on the leg.  It fits so far.

Meanwhile, I finished the 20" of mock rib for the circular shrug last night and started on the 2x2 ribbing.  I hope to finish knitting the shrug tonight and get it sewn up and photographed tomorrow.  Sarah's birthday is April 18th and I need to get this in the mail.

For some reason I don't quite comprehend, I was feverishly knitting on George's second sock this morning.  I knitted at the first bus stop, I step onto the bus with knitting in hand, I knitted until the second bus stop where I continued knitting.  I knitted even while walking from my second bus to my appointment.  By the time I got to work, I had knitted to the heel start.  For that I need the book as I've only ever done one Dutch heel (on the first sock).  If this activity keeps up, George and I should have plenty of hand-knit socks.

In October, my husband George's youngest brother, Mark, married his girlfriend of eight years, Lizzie.  I made Lizzie a wildly coloured felted bag as a welcome-to-the-family gift.

I used four colours of Cascade 220 and a yellow eyelash yarn.  This also took 3 washings to get to a felted appearance I liked.  (The bag is stuffed with washclothes in all these pics.)

Here's a picture of its bottom:

And here it is hanging to show the length of the strap:

I knitted on the shrug constantly on Wednesday and took this progress photo this morning.

That's 2 skeins of Jiffy yarn.  I think the entire shrug is going to take just under 4 skeins.  I'm really liking how the mock rib is looking.

Back in late 2005, I made several felted bags and a purse.  I made the greens & purples bag first.  I used 5 coordinating colours of Cascade 220.  I knitted with each colour until I felt like a change.  It took 3 trips through my front-loader washing machine to get it felted to a point I liked.  The handle on this bag is about 14 inches long.  I use this bag as my purse on sunny days.  It's too open for rainy Seattle days.

The bottom of the bag came out looking like tie-dye.  I liked it so much I deliberately did the same on the next two bags I made.

I finally uploaded the photo George took on Sunday (4/2) morning.

Shrug040206.JPG

This shows 6 inches of 2x2 ribbing and 1 inch of mock rib.  The color is a lot better in real life.

I've completed one of the socks for George and have the second cast on.

I cast on to two needles.  I'm thinking for my next pair of socks of casting on to a slightly larger needle as Cassie of Too Much Wool does.

My niece Sarah is going to be 14 on April 18th.  About a week ago, I put up a webpage of possible knitted gifts for her to choose from.  She selected the Circular Shrug in cream.  Sarah can't wear wool so I bought some Lion Brand Jiffy.  It's working up beautifully.  I have the first 6" of 2x2 rib done and about 3" of the mock rib done.  I'll try to put up some progress photos tomorrow.

I got a lot of the 2x2 ribbing knitted while George & I were down in Corvallis, OR visiting our friend Alan for his housewarming.  Alan has set up a theater in his living room and I knitted while we watched Peter Jackson's "King Kong".  I was actually able to knit by feel for once.  There are some advantages to knitting with worsted weight yarn after all. :)  (Usually I'm knitting with DK or thinner yarns.)

I'll try to write more often and also put up a gallery of previously finished projects.  I just have to hunt down years worth of photos.
